Kapal Kundala, (Director: Priyanath N. Ganguly) was  the first Indian film to achieve a ‘silver jubilee’ run of 25 weeks.   Indira Devi and Prabodh Bose are the actors in the film.


The Elphinstone Picture Palace in Calcutta was wired for sound.  The first talkie film in English Universal's "Melody of Love" was screened in the Elphinstone Picture Palace, Calcutta.

 
 
Prabhat Film Co (Kolhapur), Ranjit Movietone (Bombay), British Dominion Film Studios, Aurora Film Corporation and General Pictures Corporation (Madras) were founded in this year.

Chandulal Shah founded Ranjit Studios in Bombay. It produced films under the banner Ranjit Films Company. In the talkie age, the name was changed to Ranjit Movietone.

Prabhat Film Company was established by V. Shantaram.
