Deepali (Babita) returns to her native town from Mumbai. Her mother finds a love letter of her and brings it to the notice of her maternal uncle, Choudhry (Om Prakash). A few days later Pritam (Shashi Kapoor), a young eligible bachelor from Mumbai comes to stay in their neighbourhood. Choudhry starts believing that he must be Deepali's lover from Mumbai and starts talking to him. Pritam comes to to know of Deepali's love letter, meets and falls in love with her and wins her love with some help from her uncle.
