Jeetendra is a successful hindi film hero with many hits to his credit.
Jeetendra was born as 'Ravi Kapoor' on 7th April 1942, in Amritsar, Punjab. He attended St. Sebastian's Goan High School in Girgaum and his friend was Rajesh Khanna. He used to visit film studios occasionally, mainly for the purpose of supplying imitation jewelry, which was the business of his family.
Jeetendra got the first major break in Bollywood films with Geet Gaya Pattharon Ne, the 1964 film of V Shantaram. It seems his salary was decreased, when he was given the break. The decrease is based on the salary he earned as an extra actor earlier for V. Shantaram.
The film 'Farz' (1967) served as his stepping stone to success. Farz was followed by films like 'Caravan' and 'Humjoli', in which Jeetendra had more dance numbers. His vigorous dancing in the films won him the epithet, 'Jumping Jack of Bollywood'. His movies 'Parichay' (1972) and Khushboo (1975) showed his emoting ability in the roles. He had box office hit movies like 'Nagin' (1976), 'Dharam Veer' (1977) and 'Badalte Rishtey' and 'Swarg Narak' (1978). The early 1980s saw him starring in 'Apnapan', 'Judaai', 'Asha', 'Pyaasa Sawan', 'Maang Bharo Sajna' and 'Ek Hi Bhool'. He excelled in characters that showed middle class values and they appealed to the audience. In the 1980s, Jitendra was frequently paired up with Sridevi or Jayapradha for remakes of South Indian films by Rama Rao Tatineni, K. Bapayya and K. Raghavendra Rao. The films many of which are hits included Justice Chaudhry (1982), Mawaali (1983), Himmatwala (1983), Jaani Dushman, and Tohfa (1984).
Jeetendra got married to Shobha on 31st October 1974. They have a daughter, Ekta first, and subsequently a son, Tusshar. Today, Ektaa Kapoor runs the successful production house 'Balaji Telefilms' and Tusshar is an actor in Bollywood.
