Mehmood - Biography, Films and Videos Information



Mehmood born on 29 September 1932 was an actor, director and producer. He was best known for playing comedian roles. He worked in over 300 Hindi films.

He got a l break  in the film C.I.D. He did small roles in films like Do Bigha Zameen and Pyaasa.

His first break as a director Bhoot Bangla with actress Tanuja. Mehmood succeeded Johnny Walker as the most successful Bollywood comedian. He did superhit comic roles in films like Padosan (as a Tamil Brahmin music teacher — one of his greatest roles), Love in Tokyo, Aankhen, Johar-Mehmood in Goa, Bombay to Goa and Pyaar Kiye Jaa.

It is to be specially memtioned that in 1972, Mehmood directed the movie Bombay to Goa in which Amitabh Bachchan got his break as a lead actor for the first time. The film was a success and gave role in Zanjeer to Amitabh.

On 23 July 2004, Mehmood died in his sleep in Pennsylvania, US, where he had gone for treatment of heart disease

Suraiya - Bollywood Actress - Biography and Filmography

She got a  role as a child artist because of of her uncle Zahoor, who was then a popular villain. In 1941, she accompanied him to Mohan Studios to see the shooting of a film. Director,  Nanubhai Vakil  noticed Suraiya and selected Suraiya to play the role of Mumtaj Mahal.  Music Director Naushad Ali once heard Suraiya's voice and chose her to sing as a 13-year-old for Mehtaab in Kardar's film Sharda.

Suraiya's next assignment was for Tamanna (1942). Suraiya graduated to adult roles with Ishara (1943), playing second lead opposite small-timer Satish with Prithviraj Kapoor and Swarnlata playing the leading roles.  As an adult, Suraiya initially played secondary roles in K. Asif's Phool (1944), Mehboob Khan's Anmol Ghadi (1946),  and Dard (1947). She got a break as a heroine for the film Tadbir (1945) at the recommendation of K. L. Saigal.  She went on to costar with Saigal in Omar Khayyam (1946) and Parwana (1947). The four solo songs which she sang in Parwana made her a genuine singer star.

After three hits Pyar ki jeet (1948), Badi Behen, and Dillagi (1949), she became the highest paid female star.  She made had hits in Waaris and Mirza Ghalib (1954). Rustom Sohrab (1963) was her last film.

While shooting during the film Vidya, she became romantically involved with Dev Anand. The two of them were paired in seven films together: Vidya (1948), Jeet (1949), Shair (1949), Afsar (1950), Nili (1950), Do Sitare (1951) and Sanam (1951), all of which were successful at the box office. Her maternal grandmother opposed the relationship as they were Muslim and Anand was Hindu, and so, Suraiya remained unmarried. They stopped acting together after her grandmother opposed their partnership.

In a career spanning 22 years, Suraiya acted in approximately 65 movies.

Tarachand Barjatya - Biography

Tarachand Barjatya (10 May 1914 - 21 September 1992) is a well known Indian film producer.

He has produced many successful Hindi films from the 1960s through to the 1980s under the Rajshri Productions banner which he founded. It continues to produce films even today. The mainstay of the banner is family-oriented films based on human values.

He was born in Kuchaman City in Rajasthan state in 1914. He studied at Vidyasagar College, Calcutta. He established Rajshri Pictures (P) Ltd. in 1947.

Some of the notable films produced by him are Dosti, Jeevan Mrityu, Uphaar, Piya Ka Ghar, Saudagar, Geet Gaata Chal, Tapasya, Chitchor, Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaye, Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se, Sawan Ko Aane Do, Taraana, Nadiya Ke Paar[disambiguation needed], and Saaransh.

He died in 1992.

Madhoo - Biography and Films


Madhoo was the film name of niece of Hema Malini who was named as Madhubala. She was born on 26 March 1972. She also became an actress in the footsteps of her famous aunt and made her Bollywood debut with Ajay Devgan in Phool Aur Kaante (1991).  She has acted in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films. She is best remembered for her portrayals in Maniratnam's Roja (1992), Sangeeth Sivan's Yodha (1992) and Shankar's Gentleman (1993).
